Groundhog Day
It was Groundhog Day in New Jersey. Jace the groundhog was just getting ready to come up out of his hole.
"I probably won't see my shadow," he though. "I never have seen it as well as Al."
Al was a ground hog who lived a couple of miles away and was a good friend of Jace. He had never seen his shadow either.
Jace climbed out of his hole and turned around.
"No shadow!" he though. He was very much relieved at this. He decided to go visit Al.
When Jace got to Al's hole he found him trembling.
"What's going on Al?" asked Jace.
"I saw my shadow!" said Al nervously.
"How can you? I didn't see mine." said Jace, flustered. How could Al have seen his shadow when he hadn't?
Just then Vivi came. Vivi was a very smart groundhog who lived near Al.
"Hi Al and Jace!" said Vivi happily. Jace and Al just stared at her.
"Judging from your faces, one of you has just seen their shadow. Let me guess, it was Al."
"How d-d-did you know?" asked Al.
"I saw mine and we do live in the same area," answered Vivi.
"What d-does that have to do with anything?"
"It was sunny in our area so we were able to see our shadows," answered Vivi.
"Why are you so happy about it?" asked Jace.
"You didn't see your shadow, did you?" asked Vivi.
"No, but that's not answering my question," said Jace.
"Well, sun causes shadows. Because of that if you see your shadow warm weather is coming," said Vivi.
"Does that mean that we're going to have colder weather where I am?" asked Jace worried.
"Yes," said Vivi.
"Oh no!"
