Star Wars 14: The Battle of Logic
Introduction
Luke and Leia have proven themselves as jedi, but can they prove themselves logically? Can they survive without Hana for a little while longer? Will this be their last battle? When there are questions, there must be answers. Let us find the answers in Star Wars 14: the Battle of Logic.
Scene 1
Luke and Leia are dueling when they hear the alarm go off. They stop and look at each other. “Persephone and Ranya!” they say. They run out of the room.
Scene 2
They hurry to where the attack was happening, but instead of a battle they see Persephone’s ship flying away. “What is that?” asks Leia. She is pointing to a note on the ground. They pick it up and read it. It says, “You have proven yourselves as jedi, but can you prove yourselves logically?” “This is strange,” says Luke. “I wonder what she means by ‘prove yourselves logically,’” says Leia. “We better get ready for our own attack,” says Luke. They leave to get ready for the mission.
Scene 3
They board the ship (Luke is driving). “What are you reading?” asks Luke. “Grammar and Composition 1,” replies Leia not looking up from the book. “Why are you reading a seventh grade school book?” asks Luke. “Don’t you remember what the note said? I am preparing myself logically for anything,” says Leia. “Do you think we will need to know what a predicate nominative or a direct object is?” asks Luke. “Well, even if we don’t use it I will still have reviewed it and learned from it,” says Leia. They land and get out of the ship.
Scene 4
They enter the doom star without being captured. There are no guards around. “This is odd. Why would Persephone not have guards?” asks Leia. “It is unusually quiet too,” says Luke. “This way to the control room!” says Leia. They hurry off to the control room.
Scene 5
They approach the door to the control room. They try to open the door, but it is locked. They try to cut a hole in it with their lightsabers, but, strangely, that doesn’t work either. “This is one of those times when I NEED my blaster,” says Leia. “What is that on the door?” asks Luke. “It says ‘You maybe are jedi, but can you solve this? I bet you can’t diagram that sentence,’” reads Leia. “What sentence are we supposed to diagram?” asks Luke. “Well, it is probably the first sentence. This does seem too easy,” says Leia. “Who wants to diagram it then? We probably only have one shot at this,” says Luke. “I think I’ve got it,” says Leia. She diagrams the sentence, but in text language. “Let’s see if this works,” says Leia. She slides it under the door. They try the door again but this time, unlocked. “I can’t believe I just diagramed a sentence in TEXT language. I consider it an informal form of communication,” says Leia. “Well, it worked,” says Luke. They enter the room.
Scene 6
“There’s the security cameras,” says Luke. They turn them on but instead of seeing different parts of the doom star they see a math problem. They see this.
Do one each and get the correct answer or you will be in great danger.
.04x+3=3.70 .4x+2.1=3.22
.05x+1=1.20 .2x+2.7=1.44
“How do we do one each when there are two of us and four problems?” asks Luke. “Well, we should be glad that Hana is not here or it would get very complicated. Well, we are back to the beginning of the school year seventh grade math. This a double answer. We must get the answer to the problems right while figuring out how to do them in the first place,” says Leia. “So how are we both doing one apiece?” asks Luke. “Simple! We add them together. I will do the two on the left and you can do the two on the left,” says Leia. “That’s it?” ask Luke. “Yes. Now let’s get started,” says Leia. They start the math (answers: Luke’s problem: X=3.1 Leia’s problem: X=10)They say their answers and immediately see the different areas of the doom star. “There’s Persephone!” says Luke. “Let’s go!” says Leia. They hurry to find Persephone.
Scene 7
They get to the door of the room that Persephone is in and there is another logical problem. The see a note that says “Your mouth is capable of speaking different things. Can you speak Spanish and French?” “Leave this one to me,” says Leia confidently. They hear music. “Hermanos escuchando musica,” says Leia. A TV screen comes up turns on. “Hermanos mirando television.” They see a dog. “Un Perro.” They see a cat. “El Gato.” They see three green trees. “Très verde arboles.” They hear a voice from inside the room. “Enter.” Luke and Leia cautiously enter.
Scene 8
They enter the room and see Persephone. “So you are more clever than I thought,” says Persephone. “You mean logical? That is what you said in the note,” says Leia. “Whatever. You haven’t finished all of the logical problems yet though. She circles her hand around her. “I have a shield around me that can only be broken if answered correctly on a logical problem,” says Persephone. They see words written in mid air. “Do you know anything about the food you eat? What is a carbohydrate?” “That’s easy,” says Leia. “A carbohydrate is a simple sugar that gives you energy.” Persephone’s shield goes down, but she immediately creates it again. They see a new question written in mid air. “Where are unicorns and canaries located together?” “The ocean!” says Luke and Leia together. The shield goes down and up again. “What is a sport played on broom sticks in a famous book?” “Quidditch!” “What are the four sister’s names in Little Women?” “Am I supposed to know this?” asks Luke. “Margret, Josephine, Elisabeth, and Amy March who are also known as Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March,” says Leia. “Who dies in Little Women?” “Some book!” says Luke. “Elisabeth March. Also known as Beth March,” says Leia. “What scientist studies small things under a microscope?” “Now we’re getting somewhere! A microbiologist,” says Luke. Persephone tries to make another shield but can’t. “You ran it out of questions!” says Persephone. “I’ve never liked smart people.” “We were just proving that we were logical,” says Leia. “We can solve simple problems.” “Ha! Really? What about this one?” asks Persephone. She pushes a button on her necklace and a storm trooper comes up and takes Luke and Leia away to the dungeon.
Scene 8
Leia is pacing back and forth trying to figure out how to get out. “There has got to be a way out of here!” she says. “I know that ‘logical explanation’ is your favorite phrase, but there isn’t a ‘logical explanation’ for everything,” says Luke. “Yes there is. We just have to figure it out for getting out of here,” says Leia. “A ‘logical explanation’ of dugeons is that they are a place that you cannot escape,” says Luke. “You have a point,” says Leia.
